Senior citizens are the most unlikely people that would go flying overseas. Most of the time, they are discriminated upon because some travel insurers put an age cap on policyholders. They do not cover people 65 years old and above. This becomes a problem for this age group when traveling. Other insurers that provide coverage, offer higher premiums for this age group. The premiums would often be 60% more than the price of regular travel insurance.
This trend is because they view this age group as high risk. Because of their age, they are more prone to illness or accidents when traveling which would make medical expenses higher.

Holidays are good times to test new adventures which we usually can not do at home. However, they can have pricey consequences. An example is mountain hiking or trekking. If you get mountain sick, it could be as simple as applying first aid or as expensive as $10,000-$20,000 if you have to be taken to the nearest medical facility via a helicopter. If you are excited to have a sea adventure, be educated first of the perils that could come with it. Divers usually have decompression sickness if they get back to the water’s surface too fast. Watch for signs of this ailment like itching, rashes, fatigue, numbness, joint pain, paralysis or worse death! To treat this person, he/she will be put inside a re compression machine for at least two days which could cost more or less $5,000.

There are other problems that can be encountered but the most common one is that of unavailability of the medicine you need for your medication. Just make sure that you bring all the medicines you need in order to have a safe, happy trip.

In purchasing travel insurance, four common terms are frequently encountered which at times can lead to confusion for the average traveler. To clarify thing, we will try and define each of these terms. Let us start with Pre-existing Condition; basically, this is any medical illness you have prior to your trip. Some insurance companies though may have a specific time frame for determining what a pre-existing condition is. Primary Coverage means that you are covered from the initial dollar and above while Secondary Coverage pays only for most medical bills that are not shouldered by your private health insurance. Lastly, Initial Trip Deposit can either be your initial payment or that which represents your full payment.
